Juxtaposition art

I am looking at some of examples of juxtaposition art for my drawing paper.

By combining two different parts to create one image, it is really interesting how we see juxtaposition images and how we think about the artwork.

I am working on series of illustrated juxtaposition artworks, i set a title as "drop dead horror".

I have read the book "Drop dead cute" , it was all about how cute things can be creepy. and for me, i use juxtapose as my drawing method and i see objects, draw objects in a cute way rather than showing it in horror ways.

Frankenstein - drowning girl

In the horror film it is really important to have a good narrative, good visual effect, and sound effect but also through out my studio practice, i found myself having trouble with dealing with suspense and tension. I am working on my montage video art and I have realized it is really hard to have all elements such as good visual effect, good sound effect, good stories. If the film is only scary, then for me, i think the movie totally failed. It has to be something more than horror, the director has to play with people's mind and knows how to deal with tension and suspense in the film.

Design

What is Design?

I see design as something i receive information by looking at the text and image and how it affects to the product so the viewer can see the value out of it.

Design itself can be a unique, simple and abstract and if it contains too much information in one poster/ design work, then people often get confused.

I believe that a piece of design work can speak the truth also the falsity.

Jenny Holzer's "For the Guggenheim"

I watched this video 'For the Guggenheim' by Jenny Holzer in contexual studies class.

I like the way how she experienced with using different media such as moving image and the text itself is not just text, it become as a main method because normally text used to support the image / main ideas.

My point of view seeing McCahon Colin's work, i see the similarity beween McCahon's and Jenny's. The viewer read text as an artwork rather than read it and get information out of it.

But the text helps the viewer to understand the actual work and that is the reason why i like Jenny Holzer's work. Her previews works speak the truth, violence, sexualism, things that people are afraid of saying it, she speaks it in her work.

Text and Image

Colin McCahon Ecce Agnus Dei 1969 water-based crayon and wash on paper

Colin McCahon (1919) is New Zealand painter, He creates work by using someone else's text or his own text. I quite like the way how his works speak emotions for example in this work the text and the way how he painted , are quite relate to each other and by using poetry in his work, the style in painting tells the viewer that it is poem.

I like the use of color and the text, for me i read this work as an artwork rather than reading text because i think by adding colors the meaning can be changed.
